October 7 - A Day At The Spa

Today was our only full day in Munich. This is where we will meet up with the Danube River cruise tomorrow.

I visited Munich on my post graduate vacation in 1976 and found the city to be just another big city with nothing of interest to offer. Just some old churches and the headquarters of some large multi-nationals.

So, instead of going on a city tour, we decided to go to a nearby spa. Going to a thermal spa is one of Marg’s favorite activities, when we are on vacation. Theme Erding is an enormous facility near the Munich airport. It has a family water park with wave pools, easy rivers, and slides. In the area known as the Oasis, where we went, you will find multiple mineral hot tubs and a large warm pool. Each mineral pool has its own unique minerals with their own special healing properties. Having a swim up bar is also a nice feature. There is a third area with saunas, but we skipped this area.

For Marg this has been the highlight of the vacation so far.

Cabs are expensive here. For a 30-minute ride to the spa, it costs about $70 each way. The drivers have a total disregard for the speed limits, which makes for an exciting ride!
